Lisbon, Portugal

In April 2023 the family went on a one week trip to visit our son who was currently doing a 4 month school term (Catolica) in Lisbon, Portugal.  We stayed in Alfama, which is a popular historic area on the southern tip of Portugal.  This was a great location to be not only close to where his apartment is but is a popular tourist destination.

The three galleries I have for our trip are broken down into the sights we took in during our brief visit.  A few of the days was lots of walking around the Alfma area, one day we took the train to Cascais and another day we took the train to Sintra. Cascais was for a beautiful seaside lunch plus beach visit followed by a costal sunset scene and Sintra was a visit to the Palace of Pena and Quinta da Reglaira and it’s popular well.  Cascais is known for its beautiful beaches and ocean coastline.  Sintra is known for it’s amazing historic palaces. All are beautiful locations that are popular tourist destinations.  Taking the train was a fun, very affordable way of visiting Cascais and Sintra plus gave an opportunity to see some of the city outside of the tourist hot spots.

Port Hope – November 2021 – B&W

An afternoon trip to the beautiful little town of Port Hope on the shore of Lake Ontario.  Since it was November the scenery didn’t lend itself to beautiful colours or vegetation.  It was a dreary cold ‘blah’ day.  So I focused on B&W images and the downtown scenery.  Due to C-19 and being the off season the downtown was very quiet with not many businesses open.  In the summer Port Hope can be a beautiful place to spend an afternoon but on this November day nothing was going on downtown.

For this outing I wanted to take my time so I brought my Fuji X-Pro1 and vintage manual focus Canon 24mm F2.8 FD lens.  On the Fuji gear this lens has the full frame focal length equivalent of 35mm. I find that to be an excellent ‘out for a walk’ focal length.  I have always been impressed with the sharpness this old prime lens produces.  It’s simple and fun to use while easily nailing focus with the focus peaking feature of the cameras.

Snowdon Park – Jan 2021 – Minden Hills

Mid January, 2021 my wife and I went for a walk with our new dog to the remote trails of Snowdon Park. Snowdon Park is 460 acres of wetland and forest preserve established through the cooperation of the Township of Minden Hills and the Haliburton Highlands Field Naturalists.  Details on this park can be found here and here.

Below is a small series of snapshots I took as we walked the trails.

Gear: Fuji XT4, Fuji 16-80mm F4, all images are in camera JPG Acros+Y film sim.
