Snowdon Park – Jan 2021 – Minden Hills

Mid January, 2021 my wife and I went for a walk with our new dog to the remote trails of Snowdon Park. Snowdon Park is 460 acres of wetland and forest preserve established through the cooperation of the Township of Minden Hills and the Haliburton Highlands Field Naturalists.  Details on this park can be found here and here.

Below is a small series of snapshots I took as we walked the trails.

Gear: Fuji XT4, Fuji 16-80mm F4, all images are in camera JPG Acros+Y film sim.

Tobermory & the Bruce Penninsula

Summer 2019 my family did a couple day trip to the popular tourist area of Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula. A beautiful area to visit.  For our trip we went mid-week which we learned afterwards was a wise choice due to how busy this area can get on a weekend.  Google map link.

On this trip I took the Fuji X-T2 and the Fuji 16-55mm F2.8 lens. Continue Reading →

CUBA – Memories Resort in Holguin Province

Late January 2019 my wife and I took a one week vacation to Cuba. More specifically to the southeast corner of Holguin province. This was our first trip to Cuba. Flight and all bookings were done through Sunwing, a popular travel agency specializing in exotic southern locations.

Our trip to Holguin province entailed a week long stay at Memories resort and four unique outings. Excursion #1 was a 1/2 day catamaran cruise that took us to two shallow reefs for snorkeling followed by a fantastic seafood lunch at a private restaurant. Excursion #2 was a 3 hour experience that took us to a local market. Excursion #3 was a 1/2 day trip to the city of Holguin. Excursion #4 was a 1.5hr adventure where we walked from the resort (lead by a local guide) to a intricate cave system for some subterranean exploring. The photos I share in this post are from each of our experiences during our week in Cuba. Continue Reading →

Snowdon Park – Minden Hills

On December 31, 2018 I went for a walk with family to Snowdon Park, just a short drive east of Minden. This was our first visit to this 460 preserve.

Needless to say, going in the middle of winter results in plain white snow covered photographs. So my search was to find something … anything of interest that wasn’t simply a tree covered in snow. During our visit we walked most of the trail system except the one large loop that has an old abandoned car. That would have made for an interesting photo and in hindsight I should have requested we find the car, but that will have to be for another visit. Continue Reading →

1000 Island Boat Tour + Boldt Castle

In early July 2017 my wife and I spent a day in the area of the scenic 1000 Islands.  During our visit, home base was the pretty little town of Gananoque.   A picturesque town in the 1000 Islands area of the St. Lawrence River.

While in Gananoque we used the services of Gananoque Boat Line and enjoyed the very comfortable 5 hour boat tour they offer called “Boldt Castle Stopover Cruise“.  This tour entailed a 90 minute boat ride to the famous American Boldt Castle, almost 2 hours to explore Boldt Castle and a 90 minute boat ride back to Gananoque.
