In early 2025 my wife and I did a 10 day trip of a lifetime to Egypt. We flew into and out of Cairo. The trip was a pre-designed package through Intrepid tourism. An excellent service which made for a very well organized and stress free visit.

We started in Cairo and travelled from the north tip Alexandria all the way to the southern tip Abu Simbel. The travel was literally planes, trains and automobiles! lol

While in Cairo we visited the pyramids of Giza (Giza Necropolis) as well as the The Egyptian Museum. The brand new MASSIVE museum had not yet opened but we drove past it and it is impressive. Note: photography was not permitted in the segregated display of Tutankhamun but I can tell you it was very impressive. The artwork detail of the head piece and casket was insane.

Next we ventured to the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa and a brief visit to Alexandria.

Our third day we travelled north to Alexandria to visit Fort Qaitbey at Qaitbay Square and an amazing monastery, Monastry of Saint Bishoy

On day 4 of our trip we went the Awan area and had the pleasure of visiting a Nubian village on their own island (a culture that is thousands of years old) plus enjoying a local meal at one of the residents home. We also visited the impressive Philae Temple and took a short boat tour on the Nile. Note: the Philae Temple (which is huge) was moved to this location due to the damning and flooding of the Nile. A very impressive and massive task to undertake.

Day 5 took us to Abu Simbel, a very impressive site on the Nile at the southern most tip of Egypt. A structure built to intimidate any sourtherners coming up the Nile river to let them know they are entering Egypt and they should be intimidated by it’s Pharaoh and army. We also had another short boat cruise and an evening walk at a local market in Aswan.

Our next day in Aswan we visited the popular unfinished Obelisk, visited their impressive damn (for a while the largest in the world) and ended the day with a tour of Kom Ombo Temple and finished with seeing mummified crocodiles!

Day 7 and 8 were two day cruise up the Nile as we headed in the direction of Cairo. One of the stops was in the city of Luxor which we really enjoyed. LOTS to see in Luxor. Nice small markets, the impressive Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and Luxor Temple. All huge and impressive. Also when looking to the west in the morning a scenic site of hot air balloons over the Valley of the Kings.
