Port Hope – November 2021 – B&W

An afternoon trip to the beautiful little town of Port Hope on the shore of Lake Ontario.  Since it was November the scenery didn’t lend itself to beautiful colours or vegetation.  It was a dreary cold ‘blah’ day.  So I focused on B&W images and the downtown scenery.  Due to C-19 and being the off season the downtown was very quiet with not many businesses open.  In the summer Port Hope can be a beautiful place to spend an afternoon but on this November day nothing was going on downtown.

For this outing I wanted to take my time so I brought my Fuji X-Pro1 and vintage manual focus Canon 24mm F2.8 FD lens.  On the Fuji gear this lens has the full frame focal length equivalent of 35mm. I find that to be an excellent ‘out for a walk’ focal length.  I have always been impressed with the sharpness this old prime lens produces.  It’s simple and fun to use while easily nailing focus with the focus peaking feature of the cameras.

Snowdon Park – Jan 2021 – Minden Hills

Mid January, 2021 my wife and I went for a walk with our new dog to the remote trails of Snowdon Park. Snowdon Park is 460 acres of wetland and forest preserve established through the cooperation of the Township of Minden Hills and the Haliburton Highlands Field Naturalists.  Details on this park can be found here and here.

Below is a small series of snapshots I took as we walked the trails.

Gear: Fuji XT4, Fuji 16-80mm F4, all images are in camera JPG Acros+Y film sim.

Friday Harbour – Lake Simcoe

Summer 2020 my wife and I went for a drive to check out the brand new Friday Harbour on the west side of Lake Simcoe.  I learned of Friday Harbour from the TV show Powerboat Television.

Friday Harbour is a brand new high-end town home and condo community that contains walking trails, golf course, docks, restaurant, beach, jet ski rentals, bike rentals, canoe rentals, sailing lessons, pool and shopping that are all open to the public (and I believe even more than I’m listing here). Simply drive into this impressive development and enjoy a walk around the grounds and visit some of the shops while you sip a Starbucks and much on a Beaver Tail. Because of the C-19 fiasco, many of the events and tables they would have setup to encourage people to come and stay were not present.  However for our first visit we still enjoyed visiting this impressive development.

Here is the Powerboat TV piece where they visit Friday Harbour (they cover Friday Harbour in the beginning and end of the clip) -> YouTube Vid

Caribbean Cruise – Feb 2020 – Norwegian Getaway

Late February 2020, my wife and I took a brief winter escape on the NCL Getaway.  A Caribbean cruise that sailed out of New Orleans.  On this 7 day cruise we visited Cozumel, Roatan, Belize and Costa Maya.  When we returned to New Orleans we had a few hours before we needed to arrive at the Louis Armstrong airport so we had some time walking the streets of New Orleans. Tobermory & the Bruce Penninsula

Summer 2019 my family did a couple day trip to the popular tourist area of Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula. A beautiful area to visit.  For our trip we went mid-week which we learned afterwards was a wise choice due to how busy this area can get on a weekend.  Google map link.

On this trip I took the Fuji X-T2 and the Fuji 16-55mm F2.8 lens. Continue Reading →
